  • Bucks County Plahouse 70 South Main Street New Hope, PA (map)

Enjoy a screening of Buster Keaton’s classic comedic silent short films with LIVE musical accompaniment.

Stumbling, falling, tumbling and running from cops, ghosts, trains and electric houses Buster Keaton delivers up the breath-taking stunts and antics that made him one of the greatest figures in early film history. This program features 4 classic Keaton shorts: “Cops,” “Electric House,” “Haunted House” and “One Week.”

Not-So-Silent-Cinema follows him through 1920’s landscapes with a parallel soundscape of American roots music combining blues, jazz, ragtime, old-time, Klezmer, and even a little classical music, composed by Not-So-Silent-Cinema’s music director Brendan Cooney.

Not-So-Silent-Cinema presents new scores to classic silent film with a rotating casts of musicians. For this performance Cooney is joined by the New River Ensemble, a genre-stretching chamber music ensemble. New York clarinetist Martha Hyde is a veteran of Broadway, Radio City Music Hall and the Gotham Wind Symphony. Cellist Lisa Liske-Doorandish is an in-demand performer and teacher from the hills of southern Virginia. Cooney, a Philadelphia local, joins them on piano.
