STG Presents Silent Movie Mondays: Steamboat Bill, Jr. (1928) at The Paramount Theatre April 10, 2017 as a part of the Comedy Classics Series.

The “Comedy Classics” Series includes STEAMBOAT BILL, JR. on April 10; GIRL SHY on April 17; and SELECTED SHORTS on April 24.

STEAMBOAT BILL, JR. (1928) stars Buster Keaton's (the Great Stone Face) in the last of his nine independent feature films and one of the last silent comedies. The film - actually co-written, co-produced, and co-directed by actor Keaton (with director Chas. F. Reisner) was derived from a story by Carl Harbaugh, although Keaton only took credit for acting. Featuring some of his best known stunts, Keaton plays the college-aged son of a cantankerous riverboat captain joining up with his father's crew. Christian Elliott joins us on the Mighty Wurlitzer Organ.

Silent Comedy Gala

The host for this year’s Gala Show is the incomparable impressionist and comedian, Rory Bremner who will introduce the triple bill of laugh out loud comedy classics.

The spirit of the 1920s & 30s is embodied in a special appearance from singer, actor, and national treasure Roy Hudd who will be making a rare appearance to perform as that ‘cheeky chappie’ of music hall fame, Max Miller.

Harold Lloyd’s The Freshman (1925) will be shown in full at our annual gala show, accompanied by the 25-piece Bristol Ensemble orchestra conducted by Guenter A Buchwald, playing composer Carl Davis’s brilliant score.

In addition, two classic short comedies, The Finishing Touch (1928)  starring Laurel & Hardy PLUS Buster Keaton’s The High Sign (1921) will be shown, accompanied by The European Silent Screen Virtuosi.

Slapstick’s Gala writes the Bristol Post, is “a Bristol Institution”. Book early to be sure you are a part of it.

The Goat (Buster Keaton & Malcolm St. Clair, 1921, 21 mins, DCP)
A series of adventures begins when Buster is mistaken for the famous outlaw Dead Shot Dan. 

Cops (Buster Keaton & Edward Cline, 1922, 18 mins, DCP)
Buster Keaton gets involved in a series of misunderstandings involving a horse and cart. Eventually he infuriates every cop in the city when he accidentally interrupts a police parade.

The Bell Boy (Roscoe Arbuckle, 1918, 33 mins DCP)
At the Elk's Head Hotel, bellhops torment the lobby, each other and guests. The elevator is powered by a stubborn horse, a sham robbery turns into a real one, and a runaway trolley leads to a chase through downtown.

The Playhouse (Buster Keaton & Edward Cline, 1921, 22 mins, DCP)
After waking up from his wacky dream, a theater stage hand inadvertently causes havoc everywhere he works.

Our Hospitality @ The Art of the Cinema

In conjunction with the Creative Arts Guild's newest exhibit, "The Art of The Cinema", we are doing special classic movie screenings throughout the months of January and February . On January 13th, we'll be exhibiting a special Buster Keaton film, "Our Hospitality."

Come celebrate over 100 years of Hollywood with a special collection of artwork, vintage movie posters and advertisements, and cultural icons out of local private collections with the Creative Art Guild's newest exhibit, The Art Of The Cinema, running from January 6th to February 24th, 2017. As always, these exhibits are free and open to the public.
